On 3rd of November 2022, an exhibition of Japanese ukiyo-e prints was held at the National Gallery “Kvadrat 500”, Sofia. On this occasion, Stella Zhivkova PhD from the Department of Japanese Studies, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, lectured on the history, types and making of the art works.
Among four galleries in Bulgaria, which preserve ukiyo-e prints, “Kvadrat 500” has the largest collection. The event was attended by most of the teaching and student staff of the Department of Japanese Studies, representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Bulgaria, researchers and art connoisseurs. Following the lecture, the visitors had the opportunity to see the restored collection of prints dating XVII – XIX century.
