On December 15, our colleagues Stella Zhivkova PhD, gave a lecture on ukiyo-e prints at “Boris Denev” Art Gallery in Veliko Tarnovo. The talk accompanied a visiting exhibition of prints owned by the National Gallery Square 500 .

The specificity of ukiyo-e prints, the birth and development of the art both situated against the backdrop of dynamic processes in Japanese society, were among the topics of the lecture. The audience appreciated details of ukiyo-e studies in Bulgaria, dating back to the late 70s of the 20th century, admired the effort of art curators and specialists who despite the scarcity of information, dared to identify the prints in four state galleries.

The lecture took a dialogic turn when a guest introduced herself as Yoanna Atanasova – currently a curator at Plovdiv City gallery, that owns one of the famous collections in Bulgaria. Ms Atanasova shared first-person experience on the process of identification of ukiyo-e.
